According to Symantec there exists a security hole in some versions of the Symantec anti-virus software for Windows. Due to this weak point certain RAR archives chause the decomposer service to shut down and, therefore, additional malware in the archive cannot be found. However, the realtime scanner should alert the user of malware when s/he unpacks compressed files. Regular updates of the software via LiveUpdate should have fixed this problem already. The following product versions were effected according to Symantec: Symantec Web Security 3.0.1.72 to 3.0.1.74 Symantec Mail Security for SMTP 4.0.5.66 to 4.1.4.30 Symantec AntiVirus Scan Engine 4.3.7.27 to 4.3.8.29 Symantec SAV/Filter for Domino NT 3.1.1.87 to 3.1.2.91 Symantec Mail Security for Exchange 4.5.4.743 to 4.6.1.107 Symantec Norton AntiVirus 2005 11.0.0 to 11.0.9 Symantec Norton Internet Security 2005 with NAV 11.0.0 to 11.0.9 Symantec Norton System Works 2005 with NAV 11.0.0 to NAV 11.0.9 More information can be found at: http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/security/Content/2005.04.27.html Source: http://www.heise.de/security/news/meldung/59092 |
