The Chronicle reported yesterday, that the Modern Language Association inaugurated a significantly enhanced version of its Language Map, which provides "previously unavailable information about the age, English-language speaking ability, and locations of speakers for over 300 languages in the United States"

According to the article more than 47 million people in the U.S. speak languages other than English. The map now released online alows users to view maps that track the number of a language?s speakers in any given state, city, town, county, or ZIP code.

As a highly informative source for academic and professional linguists alike, as well as for enthusiasts, the online map provides valuable insights into the increasingly multi-lingual society in North America.
