TYPO3 Version 4.0 Launched; Setting a New Standard in Appearance and Function In a press release the TYPO3 Association announced the launch of its enterprise-level content management system (CMS) in version 4.0. According to the information, the CMS, which has enjoyed a grwoing popularity in the past years, now has has "improvements in localization and translation handling." In addition, the new combination of the 'versioning', 'workspaces' and 'workflow' extensions constitute a base for targeted administration and publication of various content, versions and entire TYPO3 page structures, making it easier to control large amounts of content within an organization. With the revolutionary 'workspaces' extension, editors can now select a variety of objects (pages, content, even entire websites) all at once and edit the bundle without changing any live content, the press relase informs. New in version 4 is TemplaVoilà, an alternate XML-based templating engine. It is now seamlessly integrated with the TYPO3 framework and allows easier access for localisers of websites. TYPO3 is an enterprise-level open source content management system released under the GPL. It runs on more than 122,000 servers worldwide. The application has been translated into 43 languages and is actively being developed in a community of over 27,000 users in 60 countries. Some of its users include BASF, DaimlerChrysler, EDS, Konika-Minolta, Volkswagen, UNESCO, as well as numerous universities, government agencies and non-profit organizations.
