Cultural misunderstandings between Americans and the British are not too uncommon. Linguistically, however, one expects a greater common ground for the two nations theoretically speaking the same language. Yet, Americans often difficulty to understand "the folk across the pond", the BBC reports.

To ease these problems the BBC now offers a translation website to foster growing US demand for programs from Little Britain to Blackadder. The interactive dictionary shall help decipher the finer points of phraseology from across Britain.

"If it works, American viewers will one day be able to do without the subtitles that accompanied the US DVD release of The Office." The website, however, does not only target the American Speakers of English. "Australians, though more familiar with British slang, could also benefit from the site."

Soon, the world will know what Posh'n'Becks or Pete Tong stand for.
