Osaka universities merge and create language studies center

As Daily Yomiuri Online reports two universities in Osaka, Japan will merge their institutions and create center for language studies. The presidents of Osaka University and Osaka University of Foreign Studies signed an agreement Thursday to merge the two universities by October 2007, the website writes. According to the agreement the Osaka University of Foreign Studies will become the new university's department of foreign studies which will offer a total of 24 foreign-language courses. A languages and societies course will be introduced at the graduate school of language and culture studies. Additionaly a world languages studies center will also be established to study minority languages around the world.
