A number of translation newsgroups from Germany and North America currently spread a virus known as Kriz.3863. The subversions of this virus seem to spread via the adresses in newsgroup listings and is specifically targeted towards professionals of the Translation Industry. The emails contain a file named "document_" or "Game_" or "Message_" extended with the name of the recipient. The subject of the email contains something like "Re: Corrected File", "Approved Text" or fakes a Mail Delivery failure notice. The virus is said to execute on Dec 25th and is reported to cause hardware damages. The babelport.com SiteTeam has found this virus as well as subversions of NetSky and ILoveYou worms in emails from a number of newsgroups for translators and interpreters since Mar, 5th.Today, we have contacted and informed the administrators of these infections but not yet received responses. We use AVG Anti Virus in combination with Zone Alarm Pro which protected us from the infection. babelport.com newsletters are NOT infected. Since most professionals of our industry are subscribed to one or more of such newsgroups the spread rate of the virus may still increase. It is highly recommended to UPGRADE your protection software immediately. Information about the Kriz Virus: http://www.pandasoftware.com/ http://www.ikarus-software.at/ |
