Ask Jeeves Adds New Features: Definitions and Synonyms

Internet Search Engine Ask Jeeves recently announced new features that were added to the search functionality.

Ask Jeeves now offers Automated Page Translations. Translation is powered by Reverso Translation software. With page translation users shall be given access to foreign language web content. Due to the quality of automated translations, however, this function can only be used to grasp an idea of the content and should be used accordingly.

More interestingly for translators are improvements in Smart Answers. Ask Jeeves now incorporates the The American Heritage Dictionary of the English Language, Fourth Edition. Search terms like "define [foo]" or "what does [foo] mean", trigger the dictionary feature, writes the Searchenginewatch.com Blog. In some cases, users will also find a direct link to a thesaurus for the term. Also, clicking the hyperlink for any term  defined will take the user to even more definitions and information about the word.

Along with the link to a thesaurus available via the dictionary, users may now access synonyms directly by using trigger words like: "Another word for", "Synonyms for"  or simply "synonyms". Each synonym is hyperlinked to a dictionary definition of the term. Synonyms also have full "reference pages."
